Bala Devi a Superstar woman footballer from Manipur, India scripted history with her maiden goal for Rangers FC. Bala Devi is the first women footballer from India who scores a goal in the top-tier European league. Earlier this year she signed for Rangers FC (a Scottish professional football club based in the Govan district of Glasgow ) and became the first Indian woman to sign a professional football contract overseas.
Bala Devi is currently playing for Ranger FC in the Scottish Women’s Premier League. She scored the Rangers’ ninth goal in the 85th minute after coming off the bench in the 65th minute and became the first Indian woman footballer to score in the European league. She latched on to a through ball from the midfield and slotted the ball low into the net to register her name on the scoresheet. Rangers FC finished the game with whooping 9-0 goals against Motherwell FC.
Brief Story of Bala Devi
Ningombam Bala Devi was born on 02 Feb 1990 in the little hamlet of Irengbam, situated in the Bishnupur district of Manipur. She grew up playing football mainly with the boys in her village. During her childhood, her father who is a former football player, and her brother encouraged her a lot in becoming today’s superstar stage. Bala joined a local girls’ football club, ICSA, and began competing in district-level matches when she was barely 11 years old. She was greatly influenced by Oinam Bembem Devi, the Padma Shri award-Winning midfielder from Manipur, who also made her debut for the senior team at 15.
In the year 2002, she was selected in the state’s U19 women football team and took part in the U-19 Women’s Championship in Assam. In the same tournament, Bala was declared as the best player. In the year 2003 also she was also awarded the same title.

Bala Devi scored a huge 26 goals for Manipur Police Department in the Indian Women’s League (IWL) last year. She is not only the current top scorer for the Indian National Women’s team, scoring a total of 65 goals out of 80 games, but also the top international goal scorer in the South Asian region. She has also played as captain in the national team in distinguished international matches. Bala also has a prolific goal-scoring record at the domestic level with more than 100 goals in her name.
