Lohri is the Festival of harvesting, which marks the New Year for Punjabi farmers and is celebrated around 13 January every year. On this day, the farmers plead and show gratitude to their plants before the harvesting starts and begs Lord Agni to emphasize their territory with prosperity and have a good harvest. Ths Festival marks the end of the winter season and the start of the new year. On this auspicious day, people wear new clothes and gather in large numbers, teaming bonfires to celebrate the winter solstice’s death. People will sing and dance together around the bonfire and throw foods like gajak, puffed rice, popcorn into the fire as tributes to the gods and blessings.
